Dan Whitaker & The Shinebenders
Seasoned songwriter, singer and guitarist Dan Whitaker leads The Shinebenders on a honkytonk excursion through the past, present and future. Whitaker’s songs mix fiction with truth, either stripped from his personal diaries or dreamed up and personified. Founded in 2003 Dan and the Shinebenders have been entertaining audiences with countless performances in Chicago and the Midwest while supporting their independent releases.
Their new album Truck Ride delivers studio versions of 16 Dan Whitaker tunes that have become staples at their live show over the past decade.
Long-time band mates The Shinebenders bring feeling and musical context to Whitaker’s narratives. Earl Powers lays down bass, while Belden “Trip” Kimball’s picks acoustic guitar and Chase Jackson’s keeps time on drums.
Dan Whitaker’s history in Chicago independent music goes back to the late 1980’s with punk-funk-rockers June Bug Massacre, 1990’s with the Americana-blues-rock band Great Plains Gypsies, and most recently Chicago jam-rockers The Gyps. He also currently plays with the local Americana-rock band Western Grand, featuring Jay Harris.
